TEB and KCGF sign the agreement for the “Green Deposit”

TEB Bank and the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund (KCGF) signed today the cooperation agreement for the implementation of the new financial instrument "Green Deposit", an innovative initiative that aims to support the financing of sustainable investments by businesses and accelerate the transition towards a green economy in Kosovo.

The agreement with TEB Bank represents an important step in expanding the implementation of the “Green Deposit” instrument and in strengthening the cooperation between the KCGF and the banking sector in support of sustainable investments. The instrument aims to create more financing opportunities for businesses investing in green solutions and contribute to strengthening the green finance ecosystem in Kosovo.

Through the “Green Deposit”, the KCGF complements existing financing support mechanisms with an additional instrument. Thus, the instrument aims to promote a more strategic use of capital and support a more active role of financial institutions in financing the green transition.

During the signing ceremony, representatives of the KCGF and TEB Bank emphasized the importance of inter-institutional cooperation in creating new financial opportunities for businesses and in supporting the country's sustainable development objectives.

The "Green Deposit" is designed to provide a transparent and reliable mechanism for financing green investments, ensuring that dedicated funds are used only for activities that meet defined sustainability criteria and contributing to the avoidance of greenwashing practices.

Statement by the Managing Director of the KCGF, Besnik Berisha:

“The launch of the ‘Green Deposit’ instrument represents an important step in our efforts to advance green finance in Kosovo. Through this agreement with TEB Bank, we are creating a concrete mechanism that directly links financial resources to investments that generate long-term environmental and economic benefits. This initiative is also supported by the “Green Transformation of Private Enterprises in Kosovo” (GPEK) Project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), co-financed by Sweden and implemented by Helvetas, which promotes green investments and the adoption of sustainable practices by Kosovo businesses.

At the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund, we believe that the transition to a more sustainable economy requires not only willpower, but also innovative financial instruments that enable the private sector to invest in greener technologies and practices. The ‘Green Deposit’ is precisely such an instrument, which not only supports sustainable investments, but also strengthens the role of the financial sector in addressing climate and environmental challenges.

We are pleased that TEB Bank is a partner bank of this instrument and believe that this cooperation will serve as a successful model for the further expansion of green finance in Kosovo. Together we are building a more sustainable, more innovative and more oriented financial ecosystem towards the long-term development of the country.”

Statement by TEB Bank Managing Director, Cihan Yilmaz:

“At TEB Bank, sustainability is one of the main pillars of our long-term strategy and an essential element of the way we support Kosovo’s economic development. We are pleased to collaborate with the Kosovo Credit Guarantee Fund in implementing the innovative ‘Green Deposit’ instrument, which will provide businesses with easier access to financing for investments that create long-term economic and environmental value.

This agreement reinforces our commitment to supporting our clients in the transition towards more sustainable business models, by financing projects that contribute to energy efficiency, the use of renewable resources and the reduction of environmental impact.

We believe that the banking sector has a key role in driving the green transformation of the economy and that partnerships like this are essential for creating a modern, responsible and future-oriented financial ecosystem. We thank the KCGF for their cooperation and are convinced that this initiative will bring tangible benefits to Kosovar businesses and to the sustainable development of the country.”
